Manipur: 50 Acres Of Illegal Poppy Fields, Huts Burned Down In Ukhrul District

Fifty acres of illegal poppy cultivation were destroyed in a village in the Ukhrul district of Manipur. This was informed by Manipur's Chief Minister N Biren Singh in his post on X.

Imphal: Fifty acres of illegal poppy cultivation were destroyed in a village in the Ukhrul district of Manipur. This was informed by Manipur's Chief Minister N Biren Singh who added that the authorities also destroyed four huts which were located in the poppy fields of Mullam Kuki village. Investigations are currently underway to catch those involved in the illegal poppy plantation.

In a post on X, CM N Biren Singh stated, "Our dedicated forces, comprising Ukhrul district police, 6th Manipur Rifles, Army, and the Forest Department, successfully carried out an operation to destroy the illegal poppy cultivation in Mullam Kuki village hill range under the Litan Police Station (limits). A total of 50 acres of poppy plantations were destroyed, and four illicit huts were set ablaze."

 The authorities have also registered an FIR in this matter. Addressing the progress made in the ongoing "War on Drugs" campaign, Singh said, "I commend the combined efforts of the team for their dedication to the ongoing war on drugs. Let us stand united in this fight to reclaim our hills, our values, and our dignity. Together, we will build a Manipur free from the shadow of drugs."

On December 16, 2024, around 70 acres of illegal poppy plantations were destroyed in three villages of Ukhrul district. In the same month, 55 acres of poppy cultivation was destroyed in Shihai Khullen region of Ukhrul district.
