IMPHAL: In a major operation on the Indo-Myanmar border in the Manipur sector, the Assam Rifles detained two active members of underground organizations, recovering a large quantity of arms and ammunition. The operation was conducted on Wednesday at border pillar number 76, based on intelligence inputs received from across the border.
The arrested individuals include Laishram Tomba Singh, 27, affiliated with the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Pro) or PREPAK (Pro), and Yumnam Roshan Meitei, 33, a member of the banned Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup. Singh hails from Wangjing in Thoubal District, while Meitei is from Wabagai Yangbi Mamang in Kakching District.
During the operation, security forces also recovered an array of weapons, which comprised one 5.56 mm Light Machine Gun (LMG), three LMG magazines, one LMG magazine drum, and 194 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition. They also seized a 7.62 mm AK-56 rifle, two AK magazines, and 125 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, and other military equipment like a bayonet, Motorola communications set with charger, ammunition pouches, combat dress, rifle slings, and jungle shoes.
After the operation, the Assam Rifles also handed over the arrested people and the seized materials to the police station for further legal action. This operation reflects the continuous process of curbing insurgency and ensuring security in the area.
