IMPHAL: Chief minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh welcomed the Union Home Ministry for its new regulation whereby Myanmar residents staying within 10 kilometers of the border are being allowed to temporarily enter Manipur on a "border pass" issued by the Assam Rifles.

CM Singh hailed it as an "encouraging development towards better border management" and thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for having addressed all security concerns over this.

The Chief Minister said this while addressing an event organized to mark the death anniversary of former Manipur King Gambhir Singh. He pointed out that there were no earlier systems to monitor borders and said, "Earlier, no attention was given to who entered or exited the country. I thank the union Home minister and the Ministry of Home Affairs for introducing this regulation.

Emphasizing vigilance, Singh called upon Assam Rifles, state police, health officials, and district authorities to adopt advanced technology to prevent illegal immigration and strengthen security measures.

Singh also referred to the suicide of a 21-year-old woman at the Mekola relief camp, saying that it was not connected with the camp conditions. To find out the specifics, a FIR has been filed, and more investigation is underway.

The Chief Minister also raised concerns about the misuse of social media to spread false information and ridicule the state of Manipur. He revealed that the cybercrime units have arrested many people and blocked accounts involved in such activities. Singh assured that legal action would continue against those trying to disrupt harmony through false narratives online.
