Manipur: DGAR Men and Women Polo Championship 2025 Kicks Off at Historic Mapal Kangjeibung

The DGAR Men and Women Polo Championship 2025 kicked off at Mapal Kangjeibung, featuring 32 teams and celebrating Manipur's polo heritage from January 20 to February 8, 2025.

IMPHAL: The DGAR Men and Women Polo Championship 2025 officially began with a grand ceremony at Mapal Kangjeibung, recognized as the world’s oldest polo ground, attracting an audience of 2,700 polo fans and dignitaries.

Organized by Assam Rifles in collaboration with All Manipur Polo Association, the championship will not only pay respect to the rich polo heritage of Manipur but will also nurture budding talent in the game. The tournament will be held between January 20 to February 8, 2025, with 32 teams comprising 27 men and 5 women, with fabulous competition and fine horsemanship.

With Major General Ravroop Singh, SM, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) officiating the inauguration, it was attended by some other dignitaries, including Lt Gen (Retd.) Dr. Konsam Himalay Singh and AMPA President Dr. Konsam Saratchandra Singh.

The opening day of the championship featured exciting matches, including a face-off between the Black Watch Polo Club and Lamaan Polo Club, as well as a contest between the Assam Rifles Women’s Team and the MPSC Polo Team. Then the Assam Rifles Pipe Band presented an amazing performance that further enriched the function with the spirit of celebration.

Apart from underpinning the sporting prowess of the region, this championship will also repeat the commitment from Assam Rifles to carry forward Manipur's historical legacy of polo. It is going to be a celebratory affair replete with skills, sportsmanship, and cultural pride marking the importance of Manipur in the world of polo.
