IMPHAL: In the early hours of January 1, as New Year celebrations were underway, the Kadangband area in Manipur's Imphal West district experienced another violent incident. According to police reports, suspected militants launched an attack from their hill positions in the neighboring Kangpokpi district. The assault, which occurred around 1 a.m., involved rounds of gunfire from sophisticated weapons and the use of explosives.
A police officer stated that the militants targeted the low-lying Kadangband area, firing multiple rounds and hurling bombs. In response, village volunteers stationed in the area engaged in retaliatory gunfire to protect their community.
