IMPHAL: On July 3, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh ordered all bunkers in the state regions to be demolished. The army will be in charge of the operation, with paramilitary troops assisting. N. Biren Singh laid out the government's firm position on the matter during a press conference that was conducted at the Chief Minister's Secretariat.

During a previous meeting of the joint headquarters, the Chief Minister disclosed that specific actions had been taken. He stressed that no unauthorised bunkers will be allowed anywhere as he expressed concern over the construction of private bunkers by members of various communities. The action attempts to uphold the status quo of calm and avert any potential escalation of hostilities.

A toll-free helpline, 1800 309 0931, has also been set up for complaints regarding relief. In the last 24 hours, armed attackers have fired shots that have resulted in at least one death and two injuries. There have also been reports of house fires in some of the state's districts. The Chief Minister announced the start of widespread frisking operations in an effort to allay worries about illicit weapons possession. He advised the populace to voluntarily turn in any unlawfully held firearms and ammunition to avoid facing legal repercussions as law and order progressively improved.

N. Biren Singh also announced the government's decision to reopen schools for grades 1 through 8 as of July 5, 2023. However, after prefabricated homes are finished and those living in relief camps have been transferred, education for kids in grades 9 through 12 will start up again.

The violence in Manipur, which started on May 3 when a "Tribal Solidarity March" was arranged in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community's desire for Scheduled Tribe classification, has claimed the lives of close to 120 people and injured over 3,000 others.
