IMPHAL: The All Manipur Bulk LPG Transporters Association (AMBTA) has called off their cease work strike for seven days, starting from last night. As a result, LPG bullet tank trucks have resumed operations today to transport LPG.
Due to the excessive illegal taxes on the Imphal-Jiribam highway, AMBTA initiated an indefinite ceasework strike starting from this past Monday. A team from AMBTA conducted a meeting with the Chief Secretary, Commissioner (Home), Commissioner (CAF&PD), and Director of CAF&PD late last evening.
AMBTA president A Tamphayai told The Sangai Express that the ceasework strike, which began on Monday, was launched to urge the state government to reimburse the illegal taxes collected from LPG bullet tank trucks on NH-37.
He also mentioned, "We are requesting the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to revise the transportation charges for shipping LPG on NH-37."
The Chief Secretary assured that the transporters' demands would be addressed after discussions with high-level IOCL officials on January 13 and made a heartfelt appeal for the ceasework strike to be suspended for at least one week. The Chief Secretary also assured that a representation outlining the transporters' grievances would be submitted to the Union Minister of Petroleum within the next few days.
In response to the Chief Secretary's appeal, AMBTA agreed to suspend the cease work strike starting yesterday that if AMBTA's demands are not met within one week, the ceasework strike will be resumed. until January 16, Tamphayai said. He added that if AMBTA's demands are not met within one week, the ceasework strike will be resumed.
