Manipur: One Hmar Militant Arrested, Explosives and Brown Sugar Seized

Manipur Police arrest an active Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) militant, seize explosives and brown sugar in a joint operation with Assam Rifles.

IMPHAL: The Manipur Police and the 38 AR arrested an active member of the Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) and seized explosives and brown sugar from his possession on Wednesday.

The arrested individual has been identified as Lalchuollo, aged 48, from Lungthuilien village in Pherzawl district. He was arrested near the Barak River bank, close to Tuisolen village, under the Borobekra police station in Jiribam district.

On Friday, the police reported that twenty explosive sticks, eleven detonators, one meter of safety fuse, and forty-four soap caps containing a brown powder suspected to be contraband drugs (Brown Sugar), weighing 457 grams, were recovered from his possession. The Manipur Police Control Room has requested the public to return any looted arms, ammunition, and explosives to the police or the nearest security forces without delay.

On Friday, a joint team comprising the Manipur Police, 18 Assam Rifles, the Forest Department, and an executive magistrate carried out a poppy destruction operation in the Phalee hill range under Lung Chong Maiphai police station, Ukhrul district. The team destroyed 90 acres of poppy plantations and burned down 12 huts. The police stated that an FIR has been registered, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the cultivators.
