Manipur: PLA Cadre Arrested In Bishnupur Over Involvement In Extortion Activities

Three mobile phones, one diving license, one PAN card, one Aadhaar card, one UCO Bank debit card, and one Airtel payment bank card were recovered from his possession.

BISHNUPUR: One cadre of the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA), the armed wing of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), was arrested by a combined team of Bishnupur district police, 8th Bn CRPF, and Bishnupur commandos during a cordon and search operation carried out at Ningthoukhong Ward Nos 1 and 13 from 6.30 am to 7.30 am on Tuesday, January 4.

The individual arrested from his residence was identified as Pukhrambam Prem Singh, alias Hopson (47), s/o Birchandra Singh of Ningthoukhong Ward No. 13. Police said that after on-the-spot interrogation, it was found that he joined the PLA/RPF in 1998 and had undergone basic military training in Myanmar.

The accused was allegedly involved in extortion activities in the southern Bishnupur district of Manipur. He also allegedly extorted money from the general public and government officials in the Nambol, Bishnupur, and Ningthoukhong areas and collected an amount of Rs 1,20,000 in September 2024.

Three mobile phones, one diving license, one PAN card, one Aadhaar card, one UCO Bank debit card, and one Airtel payment bank card were recovered from his possession, the police said. He was later handed over to Bishnupur police station along with the items recovered from his possession for further legal proceedings.
