Manipur Police Arrest Four Militants Involved in Extortion

Manipur Police have arrested four active militants from different underground groups involved in extortion activities across the state, including members of KCP(PWG), UNLF, and PLA.

IMPHAL: The Manipur Police on Tuesday arrested four active militants from different underground groups involved in extortion activities across the state.

Two members of the KCP(PWG) group, Ningthoujam Jupiter Singh (27) and Sorokhaibam Amarjit Singh (28), were apprehended in Mahabali under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East. They were reportedly extorting money from government officials, shopkeepers, and the general public in the Greater Imphal area. The police recovered a loaded M20 pistol along with five live rounds from their possession.

In a separate operation, Lourembam Mani Singh (46), an active cadre of the UNLF group, was arrested from Takyel Kolom Leikai under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West. He was involved in extorting money from various government offices in Imphal.

The police also arrested Pukhrambam Prem Singh (47), a PLA member, in Ningthoukhong, Bishnupur District. He was taking large amounts of money from government officials, businesspeople, and the public in Nambol, Bishnupur, and Ningthoukhong. The police found three mobile phones, a wallet, and IDs, including PAN and Aadhaar cards, on him. The police are intensifying their crackdown on extortion activities connected to militant groups in Manipur.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, the Manipur Police had successfully apprehended five active members of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KCP), specifically the City Meitei faction, during an operation in Mantripukhri Thakurbari, located under the jurisdiction of Heingang Police Station in Imphal East District.

The arrested youths had been identified as Laishram Bulu Singh (26), RK Nelson (19), Lairelrakpam Thoiba Singh (27), Kangujam Jebash Singh (28), and Boyamayum Zabirkhan (19). It had been an ongoing operation against the insurgent activities in the region.
