Manipur Police Arrest Two Cadres Involved in Extortion, Recover Weapons and Cash

The arrested individuals were identified as Nepram Bothe Meitei (24) and Yengkhom Gyandas Singh also known as Dinku or Chaningkhomba (24).

IMPHAL: Manipur Police on January 29 arrested two active cadres of the RPF/PLA, who were involved in extortion from the shops located in and around Paona Bazar, the hub of commerce in Imphal city. The arrested individuals were identified as Nepram Bothe Meitei (24) and Yengkhom Gyandas Singh also known as Dinku or Chaningkhomba (24).

From their possession, the following items were recovered: one .32 pistol along with one magazine loaded with seven rounds of 7.65 ammunition, two mobile handsets, one wallet, a sum of Rs. 6210, one Aadhaar card, and one two-wheeler. The police added that the arrested persons, along with the seized items, are now in the custody of the police for further legal proceedings.

In another similar incident, security forces arrested an active member of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF)/People’s Liberation Army (PLA) from Top Khongnangkhong near Mayanglambam Lampak under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East District, Manipur. 

The individual, identified as Yengkhom Bhogen Singh (50) of Lillong Chajing Awang Leikai, Imphal West, was taken into custody during a meticulously planned operation. Items recovered from Singh included a mobile handset and a wallet containing Rs 1,500.  

To maintain security and deter unlawful activities, extensive search operations and area domination exercises were carried out across the vulnerable hill and valley districts.
