IMPHAL: In a commendable display of swift action and intelligence-led policing, Manipur Police commandos successfully executed a special operation that led to the safe rescue of two kidnapped hostages from Assam. The operation carried out on Thursday night, also resulted in the arrest of one of the suspected kidnappers.
The victims have been identified as Rintu Mina, 37, a resident of Kanaimara Part 2, Dhubri, Assam, and Montu Sheikh, 20, a resident of Gasbari P.O. Purandiara, Assam. They had been held captive for two days by a gang of five kidnappers. The officials stated that the victims were allegedly abducted for ransom and were illegally detained in a house situated in Hatta, near Public Hospital, Imphal East.
Upon receiving intelligence input regarding the whereabouts of the victims, a special commando unit of the Manipur Police swiftly launched a rescue operation. As the commandos approached the suspected location, the kidnappers, sensing imminent danger, attempted to flee. The well-coordinated effort of the police ensured that the hostages were safely recovered, and one of the kidnappers was apprehended on the spot.
The arrested suspect is Md. Anwar Hussain, 41, is a resident of Kairang-Heingang Khong under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East District. The others could escape, but the police said they are tracing them and will bring them to book, too.
The authorities confirmed that the victims were released unharmed, and the operation was a success. A First Information Report has been registered against the arrested suspect, and further investigations are being carried out to dismantle the kidnapping network.
This is a courageous rescue operation in which the efficiency and bravery of the Manipur Police commandos can be viewed. The police have continued urging the public to be vigilant so that any activity of such type is reported; otherwise, people would continue living with the consequences.
