IMPHAL: Five members of a banned insurgent group were taken into custody by Manipur Police during several operations meant to curb extortion and unlawful activity in the state.
Huidrom Priyokumar Singh, 37, an active member of the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Pro), was arrested in the Imphal West District. The police said that on Friday, he engaged in extortion against stores in the Imphal region.
Sangomshumpham Warish, also known as Chingnungakpa, 25, was detained from Lilong Haorou Hangamthabi Salam Makok in Thoubal District as an active member of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Ningon Macha group, in a separate operation. A black holster, five 9mm live rounds, a four-wheeler, and a .32 pistol with a magazine and three live rounds were found in his possession by security personnel.
A coordinated operation on Thursday resulted in the arrest of three active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-PWG). The individuals were identified as Maibam Suraj Khan (32) and Boghimayum Sahid Khan (30) from Imphal East District, and Chongtham Shyamchandra Singh alias Sanajaoba alias Malemsana (23), from Imphal West District. The three were engaged in unlawful gun ownership and extortion. Three 5.56 mm INSAS live rounds and one empty case of.32 ammo were among the recovered objects.
Additionally, search operations were carried out by security forces throughout the valley and hill regions' susceptible areas and periphery. In Kangpokpi District, some weapons and ammunition were taken from S. Mongpi Ridges during these operations.
Among the recovered items were a. 303 rifle, a 9mm Chinese-made pistol, two SBBL guns, a 5.56 mm INSAS LMG magazine, two hand grenades, two detonators, sixteen live rounds of ammunition, three tear smoke grenades, two tear smoke shells, one grenade (WP ammunition), a long-range mortar pump, and a Baofeng wireless set.
