Manipur Police Make Key Arrests in Crackdown on Extortion and Drug Trafficking

Manipur Police arrested three individuals in separate operations targeting extortion and drug trafficking in Kakching and Churachandpur districts.

IMPHAL: Manipur Police have been able to make considerable arrests in its continued efforts at restoring order and public safety within the state.

Authorities have undertaken two separate operations in Kakching and Churachandpur districts, arresting three individuals involved in extortion and narcotics trafficking.

In the first operation, Thounaojam Johnson Singh, 42, of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People's War Group), was arrested from Wabagai in Kakching district.

Singh is suspected to have been actively engaged in extortion operations, and his arrest is believed to be a major step for curbing the activities of the banned group in the region.

In another operation in Churachandpur district, police intercepted a vehicle and arrested two persons, P. Thangkhanlam (45) and Mangliankhup (32), who were found to be carrying large amounts of illegal drugs.

The authorities seized around 776 grams of suspected brown sugar and 60 grams of suspected WY tablets from the persons who were arrested while traveling in a vehicle. The vehicle was also taken into custody.

Security forces carried out extensive search operations and area domination exercises in vulnerable areas all over the state. Security along National Highway 2 was tightened, with as many as 331 vehicles checked, and 106 check points put up throughout Manipur to ensure that the goods move through safely. The police forces will continue to stay alert in order to fight crime and ensure public safety.
