CHURACHANDPUR: The Churachandpur district of Manipur will host the funeral of 12 Kuki-Zo men, including the 10 killed in a gunfight with the CRPF in Jiribam on December 5.

The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) held an emergency meeting on Saturday, following which the announcement was made. The ITLF had previously decided not to hold the funeral for the Kuki-Zo youths until the families had received their post-mortem reports.

According to the reports, Ginzalala, the technical adviser to Mizoram CM Lalduhoma and a ZPM MLA, will attend the funeral. The ITLF also decided that a massive silent rally would be organized on the day of the burial.

The Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) in Assam conducted post-mortem examinations of the 10 Kuki-Zo men, whom the ITLF claimed were village volunteers against the Manipur government's assertion that they were militants.

Tombing claimed that SMCH performed the autopsy on the remaining youth, while Aizawl conducted the autopsy on one of the other two.

Announcing that there will be a total shutdown on December 5 as a mark of respect for the deceased youths, ITLF asked the students’ group to arrange placards and banners for the rally.

The local hospital's morgue housed the bodies after they arrived in Churachandpur.
