IMPHAL: Security forces seized six rockets, a launcher, and other weapons during search operations in Churachandpur district, Manipur, on Tuesday. The recovery took place in the Loilamkot and Nalon areas under Henglep police station, where authorities also found an indigenous mortar, one 7.62 mm sniper round with a sniper magazine, and additional materials.
In a separate operation, two members of the banned KCP (PWG) group were arrested in Morok Inkhol village, Imphal East District. The accused were reportedly involved in extorting money from civilians, government workers, and local businesses across Imphal. Authorities also confiscated a 9 mm pistol with a magazine and seven live rounds from the arrested individuals.
Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced that 4.8 hectares of illicit poppy fields in Senapati district were destroyed. The operation, conducted on Tuesday, involved the Senapati Police, the Forest Department, and the district administration.
CM Singh praised the teams for their efforts and emphasized that the fight against drugs is a collective responsibility, urging citizens to join in the effort to create a drug-free and healthier Manipur.
In another operation on January 23, a joint team of Churachandpur District Police, the District Forest Officer, and central forces destroyed 12 acres of illicit poppy cultivation in the Siden Changpikot area of the Dampi Reserve Forest.
The operation, carried out under the Sangaikot Police Station's jurisdiction, was part of ongoing efforts to combat the illegal drug trade in the region.
