Amply displaying his ingenuity, Albert Sarangthem - an undergraduate studying computer engineering at Manipur Institute of Technology (MIT) managed to brilliantly convert a retro Bajaj-150 scooter into an environmentally sustainable electric vehicle. Branded 'Samadon EV II,' the dashing red-colored e-scooter is a testaments to this youthful inventor's zeal and devotion.
In 2022, Albert embarked on a path towards sustainable transportation by creating his inaugural electric bicycle and dubbing it 'Samadon EV I.' Presently, he has progressed further in promoting environmentally responsible means of getting around as evidenced by his conversion of the conventional scooter.
Albert's electric creations are imbued with cultural significance through the use of the term 'Samadon', which alludes to a revered flying horse in Meitei mythology, thus infusing them with a distinct local identity.
Albert's eco-conscious mindset led him to take on the challenge of revitalizing a vintage scooter that had been neglected and rusted at his maternal uncle's house. He stripped away all parts related to fuel operations - including the engine and carburetor - before replacing them with crucial electric elements like a motor, battery, and speed controller. The outcome was an impressive makeover for this previously discarded vehicle!
Albert's determination conquered all obstacles, even though he faced setbacks in obtaining essential parts as a result of ongoing ethnic conflicts. He successfully managed to acquire significant components such as the battery, motor and speed controller for retrofitting his scooter.
Albert credits his proficiency development to online material and practical learning obtained from attending e-rickshaw workshops in Imphal. In 2022, MIT recognized Albert's commitment and creativity by bestowing upon him a certificate of recognition for constructing an excellent model electrical bike.
