IMPHAL: In a major operation against militant activities, security forces arrested two active militants belonging to the proscribed group PREPAK (Pro) in two different operations in Manipur. The arrests were made on Monday in a joint operation involving State and Central security forces.
The initial arrest was made in Bidya Nagar, which comes under the Jiribam Police Station's jurisdiction. The authorities arrested a person identified as Saikhom Sandip Singha, who is a 32-year-old resident of Saikhom Leikai in Sonai Bazar, Cachar, Assam. His arrest is a significant success in the ongoing struggle against insurgency in the area.
In a parallel operation, Irengbam Robinson Singh, aged 25, was taken into custody from his home in Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou Ward No. 4, under the Bishnupur Police Station. During the search of Robinson's residence, security forces discovered a substantial cache of empty ammunition cases.
The recovered material comprises 196 boxes of.303 mm, 82 boxes of 7.62 mm SLR, 55 boxes of 5.56 mm INSAS, and 32 boxes of 7.62 mm AK ammunition. Apart from the above, one mobile phone and a SIM card were also taken into custody.
Both of them, as well as the seized materials, have been brought to their respective police stations for proper investigation, with authorities still tackling the insurgency challenge posed by insurgents in the region.
