SHILLONG: The Anti-Corruption and Human Development Organization (ACHDO) has demanded State Bank of India (SBI) authorities to immediately activate the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) at Chibinang Branch, West Garo Hills.

According to ACHDO president Ishraful Hoque, a new ATM was installed in the branch a few days back but it is yet to be opened for the public. According to Hoque, thousands of bank customers are facing problems, since just to activate the ATM (for generation of password), the customers of the said branch have to proceed to the Phulbari SBI Branch which is a waste of money and time.

The ACHDO met the Branch Manager who informed them that the ATM is not functioning due to lack of sufficient voltage. The organization has requested both the bank authorities as well as the power supplier — the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) — to solve the matter as early as possible.
