Assam-Meghalaya boundary issue will be resolved: Governor Satyapal Malik

SHILLONG/ PALASBARI: There is no such complicacy in the Assam-Meghalaya border issue.The forthcoming talks between the Chief Ministers of both the States will resolve the issue in a positive manner, said the Governor of Meghalaya, Satyapal Malik during a discussion with Journalist from Guwahai at the Raj Bhavan in Meghalaya on Wednesday . During the discussion, Governor Malik praised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

It may be mentioned here that Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Shillong to pave the way for resolving the boundary issue two days ago.

The Tourism industry of the State has collapsed due to the inability to attract any tourists from outside to Meghalaya due to the present pandemic conditions. There has been a negative impact on the Tourism sector due to COVID all over the country and in the world. ''However, with the improvement of Meghalaya and the COVID situation, the Tourism industry will gradually recover if some policy rules allow tourists from outside to visit the hill State.

Otherwise if it continues for a long time, the State and its economy will be adversely affected.

Mentionably, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had earlier told Governor Malik that construction of a railway line from Assam to Burnihat would be carried out.

Meghalaya Governor Satyapal Malik said, ''I am hopeful that in the coming days the Shillong will be connected by the Railways with the other parts of the country.The supply of daily necessities would get a boost and the people of Shillong and the State would be benefitted with such a development.''
