SHILLONG: The BJP has asked for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into possible problems with the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Meghalaya. BJP leader Bernard Marak claimed the state government gave false reports to the Centre about how the scheme is progressing.

Marak said, "JJM is not being carried out as the reports say. The state claims most villages have water, but our findings show there are no tanks, no working points, and no distribution systems." He also mentioned that, despite the official reports, 90 percent of the villages surveyed were not getting water.

He called for an independent investigation, saying, "The state must solve these problems. We want the CBI to look into this scam. I hope our state president will help us send it to the CBI."

Marak also asked Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to support the call for an investigation, stressing that only an independent group like the CBI could make sure the scheme is carried out fairly and properly.

This is not the first time the Jal Jeevan Mission has been questioned in Meghalaya. There have been repeated claims of poor implementation, but the state government has always denied any mistakes.

Marak also criticized the state government for not providing equal development, pointing out the differences between Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo Hills. He said Garo Hills is behind in education and healthcare and that contracts and services are being given unfairly to members of one political party.

“People are unhappy under the MDA government as they aspire for better facilities and governance,” Marak emphasized that the BJP was committed to addressing these inequalities.

However, Marak clarified that despite these criticisms, the BJP would continue supporting the MDA government, stating, “We will be with MDA, but we will not support injustice and inequality.”
