Cardiology Head of Department (HoD) Open To Inquiry

SHILLONG: Dr. Animesh Mishra, Head of Department (HoD), Cardiology Department, North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on Saturday said that he was open to an enquiry over allegations that he make patients purchase costly stents and pacemakers from a vendor outside the hospital.

“I am open to an enquiry. I have wrote to the authorities to constitute an external or an internal enquiry,” Dr Mishra told newsmen.

The HoD also said that there was no inventory in the institute to treat the patients who need emergency care even as he also pointed out that the only pharmacy selling stents in the State its stock has been seized by the institute’s authorities.

Dr Mishra pointed out that since the shutting down of services by the Cardiology Department around 30 patients who need treatment for critical procedures have been affected.

He also pointed out that around 150-200 cardio patients visit the department on a daily basis.

“We must restore normalcy in the institute and also bring back our faith in the patients,” Dr Mishra said.

According to him, the private vendor from outside the hospital sold stents as prescribed by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) norm which had capped its rate at not more than Rs 30, 000.

“There is no single violation of price structure as recommended by the NPPA,” the Head of Department Cardiology said.

It may be mentioned that NEIGRIHMS Public Relations Officer has revealed that the HoD Cardiology Department, was not cooperating with the administration to make treatment of poor cardiology patients affordable as per the regulations of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
