SHILLONG, May 22: The Syngkhong Rympei Thymmai (SRT), Ri-Bhoi, a Khasi body, seeks to change the status quo and has pushed for a patrilineal switch in the Khasi community. The vice-president of SRT, J W Sohkhia stated that in a meeting on May 12, the members of the body discussed the vulnerability and breakdown of families devoid of male members in the family. They further discussed the economic and administrative crisis that falls upon a family in the absence of a strong foundation of male members in the family. The SRT has also appealed to the Khasi indigenous community to switch to a patrilineal descent for the purpose of strengthening the familial bond.
