SHILLONG: Congress candidate from Laitumkhrah constituency Frantin Joseph Lakadong along with Ampareen Lyngdoh on Friday stated that both of them oppose the intention of the Central Government to change the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) in Meghalaya into territorial councils.

Addressing reporters in the city, Ampareen Lyngdoh said, “We first need to study the meaning of the word territorial in politics and we need to know why all of a sudden after so many years they want to change the district councils into territorial councils.” “If the Cabinet has taken such a decision then they should not just send only a two-page copy of the memo to the State of Meghalaya,” she said. Lyngdoh said the intension of the Central Government is trying to divide and rule the State of Meghalaya. “If the Central Government has stated that there is a need to amend the Sixth and Tenth Schedule of the Constitution then why was there an amendment of the anti-defection law in the district council,” she said.

Meanwhile, Frantin Joseph Lakadong when asked on how he can prove that he is not a dummy candidate of Lyngdoh, he said, “I don’t think I’m a dummy candidate as on many issues both me and Lyngdoh use to agree to disagree and then come to a conclusion.”

Lakadong also said if he wins the KHADC elections he will work together with the local MLA of East Shillong constituency to speed up developmental activities.
