Shillong, June 9: The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills District, Shillong has said in the wake of the prevailing law and order situation in Shillong, which has resulted in the promulgation of curfew, many shopkeepers and retailers are taking advantage of the situation by escalating the prices of essential commodities. After the assessment of the availability of stock of essential commodities with traders and stockiest, the district magistrate said there is no shortage of essential items, and therefore there is no reason for retailers and shop keepers to hike the prices of essential commodities. “Strict action will be taken against retailers, shop keepers found selling essential items at unreasonable and exorbitant price,” he added.
