SHILLONG: The Chairman of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) PN Syiem has stated that his expulsion from the National People’s Party (NPP) is because he had followed the rules and regulations of the Council while conducting the House in both the ‘No Confidence Motion’ and election of a new CEM.

Speaking to reporters at his office chamber, Syiem said, “I’m here not for my own personal benefits or the party but for the interest of the people and all the MDCs.”

He also stated that as the Chairman he has conducted the House as per rules.

The Chairman further said that “as a public representative and politician, we cannot move forward or make decisions based on emotions. Everything must be conducted according to rules and regulations.”

On his expulsion from the party, he said “the NPP should have first issued a showcause notice. Instead I was removed from the party without giving me any opportunity to explain my reason for the decision taken.

“The decision I had taken was not because I wanted to go against the party (NPP). However it was due to the lack of confidence in the style of functioning of both CEM Teinwell Dkhar and Deputy CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem,” he pointed out.

He further informed that even the members and leaders of NPP, Shillong city, were shocked with the decision of the central command of the NPP.
