SHILLONG: The Khasi Jaintia Pig Butchers' Association (KJPBA) on Friday announced the increase of pork prices in the State from Rs. 360 per kg to Rs. 380 per Kg.

Speaking to reporters, general secretary of the association Andy Lyngdoh said, "We are forced to increase the prices of pork as the State government has placed an inter-state blockade on buying from other neighbouring States."

He said that this blockade has started since during the lockdown and till date the government is yet to open the inter-state blockade in buying livestock from other States.

"We usually buy from Assam but now we can't and hence we have to buy from our own State, however the prices here are expensive compared with Assam prices, hence this is also one factor in increasing the prices of pork," Lyngdoh said.
