NONGPOH: “Make full use of Civil Defence training in service of the community” said PH Shylla, Officer in Charge, Civil Defence Office, Ri Bhoi District at a valedictory function of Civil Defence volunteers held at Pahamsyiem Community Hall, Nongpoh on Wednesday.

Addressing the gathering of almost fifty Civil Defence volunteers drawn from various parts of the district headquarter, Shylla said that the main aim of Civil Defence is to empower the community by imparting training on first aid, search and rescue, flood safety, etc., as they are the first to respond during any crisis or natural disaster.

He called upon the volunteers to go back to their community and share the knowledge that they have gained during the training so that more and more members of the community will learn the basic life saving skills which is so crucial not only in natural disaster but even in day-to-day life.

Congratulating the volunteers on successfully completing the training, Shylla requested them to tell their village authority about Civil Defence training so that more youths can be trained. He said that if village authorities like Rangbah Shnong, Sordar or Secretary can simply write to the Civil Defence Office if they want Civil Defence training in their village and the office will conduct the training.

Earlier in the day, Shylla distributed the course completion certificate to 50 Civil Defence volunteers who successfully completed a four-day training on basic search and rescue course (25 Volunteers) and basic flood safety course (25 volunteers).

The function was chaired by L Syiemlieh, Assistant Deputy Controller, Civil Defence Office, Ri Bhoi District.

Civil Defence volunteers from Ri Bhoi district had actively participated in the multi-State mock exercise on Earthquake disaster organised by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) last year.
