SHILLONG: In a decisive enforcement action following directives from the High Court of Meghalaya and the Directorate of Mineral Resources (DMR), a joint team comprising an executive magistrate, police personnel, and DMR officials conducted a raid in East Jaintia Hills district, uncovering a significant stash of coal dumped outside the officially inventorised coordinates.
The Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills, confirming the development, stated, “The coal was seized on the spot and has been transported to a Coal India-authorised depot for safe custody.”
According to an assessment report dated May 9 from the Divisional Mining Officer, the total quantity of seized coal amounts to approximately 6,000 metric tonnes. An FIR has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMDR), and a detailed investigation is currently underway.
