Meghalaya: Book on environment preservation released

SHILLONG: A book titled "In search of Green Awareness and practices" written by Dr Silse D. Marak, M.A., B.Ed., PhD was released by Pro Vice Chancellor, NEHU Prof. G. Saingaiah and Former Pro Vice Chancellor NEHU Prof Milton S Sangma.

The book details the deteriorating health of Meghalaya's environment resulting from increase in population, conversion of forest land into agricultural fields, shift in jhum cultivation, deforestation, urbanisation, mining and industrialization. The author in her book stresses sustainable development as the only solution to avert the situation.

Dr Marak said that the goal of the book is to make people aware of and concerned about environmental problems and to also work individually and collectively towards solving the current problems and preventing the occurrence of new ones.
