SHILLONG: BSF troops in Meghalaya stopped a Maruti Alto 800 vehicle at GREF Morh on January 28, 2025. The car, driven by an Indian national, was trying to cross the border into Bangladesh from East Khasi Hills. Four Bangladeshi nationals were found inside. The authorities are looking into the matter and taking action.
Earlier, Five Bangladeshi nationals, including three minors, were detained by the police in the Magrum area of Tripura's Sabroom subdivision on Friday.
All those arrested were from the Hindu community. Police reports indicated that the detainees admitted to crossing the border illegally to escape the persecution of minority Hindus in Bangladesh. According to a police officer on duty, the authorities had received information about the unlawful entry of Bangladeshi nationals through the Magrum border.
The BSF and local police teamed up to conduct the raid and arrest the people. The arrested people were identified as Sanatan Misra Dey (35), Purni Dey (25), Narayani Dey (57), and two children.
The police had filed a case and were taking legal actions. This happened as more Bangladeshi Hindus were crossing the border into India, especially after Sheikh Hasina's government fell in Bangladesh.
Many of these immigrants said they left because Hindus in Bangladesh were being harmed and treated badly. More and more cases like this have made people worried about the problems faced by minority groups in Bangladesh.
