SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has issued a stern warning to a construction firm over significant delays in the completion of the Dama Chiring Bridge at Masa Akong, a locality popularly known as the Cinema Hall area in Williamnagar, the headquarters of East Garo Hills district. The warning came during a site inspection on Tuesday, following repeated complaints from Cabinet Minister and local MLA Marcuise Marak.

Expressing visible frustration with the slow pace of the project, the Chief Minister confronted the contractor directly at the construction site. “If you don’t have the capacity to do the job, then why did you take up the work? If you can’t do it, tell us… we’ll get someone else to complete the project,” he said. He further added, “Don’t drag this on… you’re not only tarnishing your own reputation but ours as well. I don’t like this at all. We work very aggressively and don’t like delays like these.”

During the visit, Sangma ordered the construction firm to submit daily progress reports and instructed an immediate increase in manpower to accelerate the project. He also directed government officials to place the contractor under a “red alert zone” status and warned that if delays continued, the company would be blacklisted and barred from obtaining any future contracts in the state.

“Put them on full red alert zone… to be blacklisted if they don’t finish the work on time,” the Chief Minister told the officials, emphasizing the seriousness of the state government’s position on timely project delivery..
