Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transformative education reforms while addressing the Education Conclave in Tura.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma, Dr. Vasanthi Vijaykumar, Vice Chancellor of Captain Williamson Sangma State University, and senior officials, to deliberate on ways to enhance the state’s education landscape.

In his address, the Chief Minister underscored the vital role of education in shaping the future of Meghalaya’s youth, describing the state’s young population as both “an opportunity and a challenge.”

He stated, “Our interventions aim to channelize the positive energy of our youth,” while highlighting the government’s multipronged approach to overhaul the education system—ranging from the renovation of schools and colleges to the establishment of Captain Williamson Sangma State University, along with substantial investments in sports and music infrastructure.

Calling for deeper collaboration with community-based organizations, he emphasized, “Government is keen to work in collaboration with the community. A collaboration would mean to work in partnership with the government to improve learning outcomes.”

The conclave also marked the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mothers’ Union Tura for the management of 20 Government LP Schools—an initiative that underscores the administration’s focus on grassroots partnerships to strengthen the education system.

Key initiatives launched during the event included the Meghalaya School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework (MSQAAF) and the CM IMPACT Meghalaya Learning Enhancement Programme (M-LEP), both designed to boost educational standards and learning outcomes. Educational tablets were also distributed to students with special educational needs.
