Shillong: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organization (COMSO) carried out a surprise inspection at the Ratacherra infiltration check post to assess the effectiveness of screening mechanisms in place to prevent illegal entry into the state. Led by  Sambormi Lyngdoh, Vice Chairman of COMSO Jaiñtia Hills Region and President of the Jaiñtia National Council (JNC), the operation was joined by representatives of allied bodies including the Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC), Jaiñtia Students’ Movement (JSM), and JNC.

The team found that officials at the post were conducting checks in compliance with legal norms. Several individuals lacking valid documentation were intercepted and sent back. “This issue is of grave concern to the people of Meghalaya. The unchecked entry of outsiders not only threatens our security but also infringes upon our rights,” stated Lyngdoh.

The inspection follows a resolution passed by COMSO during a June 21 meeting in Shillong, which called for a comprehensive review of infiltration check posts across the state. Lyngdoh made it clear that this inspection is just the beginning. “We are committed to inspecting all infiltration gates. If lapses are found in the future, COMSO will not hesitate to take strong corrective measures,” he warned.
