SHILLONG: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has defended Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma’s presence during the filing of nominations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Varanasi on Friday.

Tynsong said that the presence of the Chief Minister at Varanasi was a non-issue.

“As the president of National People’s Party (NPP) — which is an alliance partner of the NDA — he was invited to accompany Modi,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.

Tynsong also said that the equation of the NPP being a part of the NDA has not change.

It may be mentioned that the Opposition Congress in Meghalaya criticized Conrad for being present by Modi’s side at Varanasi.

According to the Congress, the presence of the NPP national president during Modi’s filing of nominations has exposed the NPP’s relationship with the BJP. During the election campaign, the NPP denied that the party had any relationship with the BJP.
