Meghalaya: Education Ministry Extends Deadline For NEHU Inquiry Panel Amid Ongoing Campus Turmoil

The Education Ministry granted NEHU inquiry panel a 15-day extension to investigate administrative failures, with findings set to impact the Vice-Chancellor's tenure and campus operations.

SHILLONG: The Ministry of Education has granted an additional 15 days to its two-member inquiry committee probing allegations of administrative irregularities at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Meghalaya.

The committee, which was earlier asked to submit its report by November 29, now has till mid-December to complete its findings.

The competent authority has approved the plea for extension, Under Secretary DK Himanshu confirmed through a letter to the committee chairman.

The committee, comprising former University Grants Commission Chairman Prof. DP Singh and former Assam University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath, sought additional time to finalise the report after holding extensive discussions with student, teacher and staff representatives.

During their visit, the committee held hours-long consultations to try and address grievances raised by various stakeholders. The inquiry aims at solving long-standing issues that have disrupted normal university activities and finding a way forward for the institution.

The report's findings are crucial to addressing the situation at NEHU and getting back to routine academic and administrative functions. The outcome is being anticipated by stakeholders, including students and faculty, who expect it to influence the future course of action at the university.

Tenure of Vice-Chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla will feature as a prominent feature in this investigation. Finally, this report will also go to form NEHU's directions towards reviving stability and confidence within its community.
