Shillong: The Meghalaya Government has notified that the nomenclature of ‘Wild Black Pepper’ will now be ‘Long Pepper’ for all intents and purposes and that ‘Tezpatta’ (Bay Leaf; Laurus nobilis) and ‘Long Pepper’ (Piper longum) will henceforth be the mandated crops of the Agriculture Department under the horticulture sector, so long as they are cultivated and/or sourced from defined non-forest lands of Meghalaya.
