Meghalaya: Governor CH Vijayashanker inaugurates Flower Show at Raj Bhavan

Raj Bhavan, Shillong, in collaboration with the Shillong Agri-Horticultural Society and the Directorate of Horticulture, organized a flower show on Saturday at the Raj Bhavan premises.

SHILLONG: Raj Bhavan, Shillong, in collaboration with the Shillong Agri-Horticultural Society and the Directorate of Horticulture, organized a flower show on Saturday at the Raj Bhavan premises. The event was inaugurated by Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashanker, who emphasized the importance of making Raj Bhavan accessible to the public.

Governor Vijayashanker announced, "Twice in a year, we are going to open the doors of Raj Bhavan to the common people, that is, August 15 and January 26. When the doors of Raj Bhavan are open, let any common people come and visit Raj Bhavan and enjoy the beauty."

Highlighting its historical significance, he stated, "Raj Bhavan is over 150 years old. It's a heritage building, one of the wonderful buildings, I tell you. The Raj Bhavan belongs to the entire state of Meghalaya; the Raj Bhavan belongs to the city of Shillong."

Speaking about the Flower Show, the Governor shared, "We decided to make it more colourful… Coming here, the entire Raj Bhavan is going to be covered by the flowers."

Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, Dr. BDR Tiwari, explained the initiative's objective, saying, "With the initiative of the Governor of Meghalaya, we thought to make the Republic Day celebration more eventful and meaningful for the place and for the people. Meghalaya is well-known for the beautiful orchids and flowers.....On the inspiration of the Governor, we are going to make it a calendar event."
