SHILLONG: Meghalaya government has been encouraging locally made products with the aim of increasing employment opportunities, hence with this the state government has recently inaugurated a forum called 'Haat Bazaar' for business people to promote the local products at Shillong.
This step in promoting the indigenous items of the state will attract the attention of many and it will give emphasis on introducing northeastern craft towns as significant tourism resources.
The Meghalaya State Skills Development Society has undertaken the major initiative of 'Haat Bazaar' in the state. It is an effort of the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat by India Prime Minister Narendra Modi which means a self-reliant India.
Further, the forum aims for an outstanding change in the use of products that are handmade and improves the lack of job opportunities because of which many deserving Meghalaya youths with lack of eligibility are suffering.
The Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, RV Suchiang said that the state government is committed to the improvement of employment among the youths through this new initiative.
It will also cover the handicraft products which is an effort to provide assistance to the rural artisans added the chief secretary. The initiative through 'Haat Bazaar' forum also increases the demands of rural artists in the national and international market in the future.
However, this is not the first initiative by the government of Meghalaya with such ambition of promoting indigenous products and local entrepreneurs but there were several other schemes.
In another initiative by the Meghalaya government a few days ago, it has launched the campaign title 'Skills Meghalaya' with the objective to set up start-ups and empower the young generations.
It further aims for a robust MSME (Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) which works as the backbone of the economy in India.
In addition, the campaign also envisions providing requisite education and the correct skills to the right person through the necessary training.
