SHILLONG: In order to combat traffic congestion, the Meghalaya government is all set to introduce 100 new electric buses in Shillong.
A fleet of electric buses for public transport in Shillong city will be introduced to reduce traffic congestion in the state capital, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma had announced in the course of delivering his budget speech in the legislative assembly on Wednesday.
"We will soon introduce a pool school bus system with a fleet size of around 100 mini-buses. I am budgeting Rs 20 crore for improving the mobility in Shillong," he had said.
Further, the CM added- "We will also launch electric buses and e-buggies at the major tourist attractions to enhance the ease of movement of tourists and promote low-impact tourism".
