Meghalaya Invites Design Proposals For New Secretariat In New Shillong

The Meghalaya government has invited national and international firms to submit designs for a new Secretariat in New Shillong, aiming for modernization.

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government has officially initiated a competitive selection for the design of the new Secretariat in New Shillong, and has invited national and international design companies to submit their tenders. The initiative is to enhance the administrative infrastructure of the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, who is in charge of Urban Affairs, explained that though there has not been a formal design competition, there is a systematic evaluation process to determine the most appropriate proposal. This is meant to ensure that the chosen design is compatible with the state's administrative and functional requirements.

To ease this process, a committee has been formed under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to go through and finalize the design proposals. The new Secretariat is to be a key component in the government's overall plan to bring modernization to Shillong's infrastructure, which has been a priority of the administration.

The project will revolutionarily change the administrative scenario in the region, and focus is placed on choosing a design that is sustainable and efficient. The project focuses on Meghalaya's trend towards infrastructural development and enhancement to be able to come up with a modern building in order to meet the changing demands of the state administration. The government expects the new Secretariat to become a significant contributory factor to enhancing the effectiveness of administrative functions in Meghalaya.
