Shillong: In a major boost for medical aspirants in the Garo Hills region, the Government of Meghalaya has announced the launch of a new STAR 30 training centre in Tura, expanding its flagship free NEET coaching programme beyond Shillong for the first time.
Launched under the State Council of Science, Technology & Environment (SCSTE), STAR 30 provides fully residential, high-quality coaching to students preparing for the NEET medical entrance exam. Last year, the programme supported 48 students with expert mentoring and top-tier preparation, enabling them to compete at the national level.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma emphasized the government’s commitment to equitable access. “This year, we are expanding the program to reach even more deserving students, especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. We’re also pleased to announce the launch of a new training centre in Tura, in addition to the existing Shillong centre — improving access across the state,” he said.
The new Tura centre is expected to significantly benefit students in western Meghalaya, reducing travel and residential constraints while ensuring equal academic opportunities.
Eligible students who have completed their HSSLC and aim to pursue a career in medicine are encouraged to apply. The last day for application is june 14.
