Meghalaya Police rescue two minor girls of Khliehriat

SHILLONG: Meghalaya police have rescued a couple of minor girls who were taken away by two persons to Assam. According to East Jaintia Hills district police, the minor girls of Khliehriat (aged 13 and 14), were "taken" away from their residence on September 17.

After the Khliehriat Women Police Station received information on September 19 and 22, a case was registered.

"During investigation, it was revealed that the two minor girls have been taken somewhere in Kalain, Assam," said East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa.

He also informed that the district police immediately swung into action and engaged reliable sources to trace the location of the two minor girls.

The East Jaintia Hills district police chief informed that on September 24 a police team led by Women Police sub-inspector D. Shabong and sub-inspector B. Marbaniang with the help of Assam police managed to track and rescue the two minor girls from two separate locations in Kalain, Assam.

"The accused persons Saydul Islam and Raju Majuib managed to flee taking advantage of the darkness and police are on the lookout for them," police said.

The victims have been handed over to the CWC after the completion of all formalities.
