Meghalaya recorded another COVID death; 29 new cases detected

SHILLONG: Meghalaya recorded another COVID-19 death on Monday even as 29 new cases were detected. With the new death, the number of persons who died of the virus has now reached 17. The State also recorded four new recoveries with West Khasi Hills registering two and one each from East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi. The total recovered cases are now 1,560.

Director of Health Service (MI), Dr. Aman Warr informed that the deceased, Frazier N Sangma, (71) of Golf Links, Shillong was admitted to the Shillong Civil Hospital on September 1, after he had tested positive during random sampling at Polo the same day. Dr. War said that he was symptomatic and died of COVID-19 pneumonia at 8 am on Monday.

The Director of Health Services informed that the district-wise breakup of the new cases are as follows: West Garo Hills: 12; East Khasi Hills: five; Ri-Bhoi and West Jaintia Hills: three each; East Jaintia Hills: two; North Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, West Khasi Hills and East Garo Hills: one each. The total active cases now stands at 1,457.

The district-wise breakup of the active cases are as follows: East Khasi Hills: 948 (Armed and paramilitary forces: 181; civilians: 767); West Garo Hills: 186 (Armed and paramilitary forces: 104; civilians: 90); Ri-Bhoi: 119 (Armed and paramilitary forces:29; civilians: 90); East Garo Hills: 98; West Khasi Hills and East Jaintia Hills: 30 each; South Garo Hills: 16; North Garo Hills: 13; West Jaintia Hills: 12; South West Garo Hills: four; and South West Khasi Hills: one.

Of the 1,00, 701 samples sent for testing till date; while 97,033 samples tested negative, results of 634 samples are being awaited. The number of people who have entered the state till date are 33,618. The break up of the new cases are as follows: East Khasi Hills: two high risk cases, one Health worker who is a returnee, one NEIGRIHMS contact and one SARI (severe acute respiratory infections) case. In East Garo Hills, one was detected during random testing at the Rongjeng Market; North Garo Hills: one was detected during random testing at the Damas Market; South Garo Hills: one was found during random testing at Chokpot; East Jaintia Hills: one returnee and one detected during random testing at Khliehriat; West Khasi Hills: one returnee; West Garo Hills: All 12 are high-risk contacts; West Jaintia Hills: one SARI case, one returnee and one truck driver.

Dr. Warr also informed that of the 1,457 active cases, 461 are females and 996 are males.
