SHILLONG: Amid rising concerns over cross-border smuggling, a joint border coordination meeting-cum-awareness programme was held on Saturday at Lejri and Borsara villages, involving the Border Security Force (BSF), East Jaintia Hills District Executive Force (EJH DEF), and local residents.

The initiative aimed to foster community partnership and enhance vigilance along the international border. A police official stated, “The meeting was organised to improve coordination with the local population and address their security-related concerns.” Discussions centred on key issues such as smuggling, border crimes, community policing, and citizen involvement. “We urge the public to remain alert and report any suspicious movement or activities near the border,” said an EJH DEF representative.

Emphasizing the importance of joint responsibility, officials noted, “Ensuring border security is not just the duty of forces but a shared commitment with the people living in these areas.”
