Meghalaya: Union Minister Reviews Development Projects And Schemes In Ri Bhoi

Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Nimuben J. Bambhaniya visited Ri Bhoi district in Meghalaya to review ongoing development projects and government schemes.

SHILLONG: Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Nimuben J. Bambhaniya visited Ri Bhoi district in Meghalaya to review ongoing development projects and government schemes.

She held discussions with state officials at the District Commissioner’s office, addressing public welfare issues and gathering feedback on scheme implementation. During her visit, she inspected a pineapple processing unit in Umling Block, interacted with farmers, and explored ways to boost agricultural processing.

At the Lay-By market in Dulongmar, she met traders and entrepreneurs, promoting the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative. She also visited MGNREGA development sites in Erapkan and reviewed the Jal Jeevan Mission project in Kynñon, ensuring clean drinking water for households.

The visit highlights the Central Government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, supporting livelihoods, and addressing local needs in the Northeast region.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the Inland Waterways Terminal (IWT) at Jogighopa, enhancing trade connectivity with Bhutan and Bangladesh. A cargo ship carrying coal and stone chips was flagged off to Bangladesh.

The terminal, strategically located near Bhutan and the Bangladesh border, features essential infrastructure, including customs and immigration offices, storage facilities, and parking areas.

Sonowal highlighted the terminal’s role in strengthening waterways transport and boosting the Northeast’s economy under the PM Gati Shakti plan. Several inland waterway projects are also underway, aiming to enhance regional connectivity and support India’s economic growth.
