SHILLONG: The Dorbar Shnong of Thangrain village in West Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya, has issued a strict warning against any form of misconduct and harmful activities within its jurisdiction.

The village has banned picnics, alcohol consumption, gambling, and other disruptive activities at its tourist spots.

Visitors are strictly required to ensure that all fires are fully extinguished after use. To discourage undesirable behavior, the Dorbar Shnong has put up signboards banning loitering after 7 PM.

The use of offensive language and inappropriate behavior in public spaces and near village boundaries is strictly forbidden. Those who violate these rules will be subject to a hefty fine of Rs. 5,000.

If the fine is not paid, the Village Council reserves the right to refer the matter to legal authorities. This decision follows recent efforts by village members to clean up the area, clearing discarded alcohol bottles and other waste.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, the Assam Police issued a set of guidelines on Wednesday for those organizing outdoor events as the picnic season began, emphasizing the importance of road safety precautions to guarantee a safe and enjoyable experience.

Designating a non-drinking driver for the trip is advised as per the recommendation. It emphasized the use of safe, legally compliant transportation that is only confirmed roadworthy following appropriate maintenance inspections. While adhering to speed limits and traffic laws, the rules required helmet use for two-wheelers and seat belt use for car occupants.
