SHILLONG: The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has officially cleared the way for two of its faculty members to contest the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election, issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Dr. D.R.L. Nonglait and Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) nominee Prof. Batskhem Myrboh following the approval of the university’s Executive Council.

The clearance removes a key procedural hurdle for both candidates as the high-stakes by-election, necessitated by the demise of sitting MP Dr. Ricky A.J. Syngkon, enters a crucial phase of campaigning.

Reacting to the development, VPP nominee Prof. Batskhem Myrboh welcomed the university’s decision and thanked the authorities for granting the clearance.

“I am very happy that, ultimately, the NOC has been granted, and I thank the authorities of NEHU. We now look forward to the election,” Myrboh said.
