SHILLONG: The local MLA of North Shillong constituency, Adelbert Nongrum along with the Headmen of four dorbars and officials of different departments, held a joint Inspection of the road near Jaiaw Bridge on Tuesday.

The headmen from the four dordars who were present during the inspection included R Marbaniang (Wahingdoh), B. Khongwir (Lawmalim), B. Lyngdoh (Riatsamthiah) and PD Nongrum (Jaiaw Shyiap and Lumpyllon).

The inspection concerns the proposal of the MLA for expansion of the road from Jaiaw Bridge near Lumjynthang Briew which will also affect the forest land till the DHS Quarters.

“I hope that the various government departments will seriously take up this proposal for expansion of the road because it is not a demand from me personally or from the people but a necessity,” Nongrum said while speaking to reporters.

He pointed out that during school hours and other programmes which are being held at the community hall near this stretch of road, it gets too congested.

He said that earlier on June 21 this month, a similar kind of inspection was held among officials from the Department of Forest, DHS and members of the Community Hall of Wahingdoh.

“This matter has been placed before the personnel of the PWD (Roads) and the government should take up this matter seriously because Shillong will be included in the ‘Smart City’ project and also because the National Games are to be hosted in our State in 2022,” he said.
