Shillong: Pumping of water from the shafts in and around the flooded illegal coal mine in Ksan, East Jaintia Hills is continuing but water has not receded, authorities said on Wednesday.
According to the spokesperson of the rescue operation, R Susngi, despite the Odisha Fire Service and Coal India Limited continuing to pump water from the shafts the water level has not come down. According to Susngi, The Odisha Fire Service operated their pump for 6 and 30 minutes on Wednesday and the total discharge of water was 5, 85,000 litres.
The Coal India Limited pump out water for 20 hours and the total of 22, 68, 000 litres of water was discharged. “The coal India Ltd surveyors also inform that the water level remains the same and water did not recede,” Susngi said.
He also informed that the Indian Navy is continuously operating their ROV in the main shaft. “The Plenys-Chennai Technology continued with their operation for sonar mapping of the shaft to sanitise and to identify the rat hole,” the Spokesperson said.
He also informed that Dr Sudhir and Dr Niraj Kumar and their teams are continuing with the Micro Gravimetric measurement and DGPs or differential position profile system to identify the seepage.
Meanwhile, The KSB pumps are likely to be installed in the evening and pumping is expected by tomorrow. Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong informed that Cabinet was briefed about the rescue operation. Tynsong also said that in the next few days the state government along with the district administration will sit along with the experts conducting the rescue operation.
“They are trying their best. Let us see for how many for days,” the Deputy Chief Minister added.
